What is included in underground plumbing?
Underground work is the first plumbing stage and the only one you cannot easily fix later.
Building drain
Sanitary drain under the slab, sloped and sized for every fixture the house will have.
Sewer connection
Connection from the house to the service at the property line, coordinated with the municipality.
Floor drains and stacks
Floor drains, stack bases and future fixture stubs placed from the drawings.
Sump pit and weeping tile
Sump pit location and connection planned with the foundation drainage.
Backwater protection
Backwater valve and access placed where it can actually be serviced.
Inspection and test
Underground inspection and water test before anything is backfilled.
How we do it
How do we do underground plumbing?
We lay it out from the drawings, test it, get it inspected, and photograph it before the slab goes down.
- Layout from drawings with every stub located before digging.
- Camera the existing lateral on rebuilds, so an old cracked pipe is not reused blindly.
- Correct slope and cleanouts so the drain works for decades.
- Water test and inspection before backfill.
- Photo record of every pipe before it is covered.

What affects the cost of underground plumbing?
We quote a fixed price from drawings or a site visit. These are the things that move the number.
Fixtures below grade
Basement bathrooms, laundry and bar sinks add drain runs and stubs.
Distance to the sewer
A longer run to the property line means more pipe and excavation.
Existing lateral condition
On rebuilds, a damaged old lateral may need replacing.
Sump and backwater design
Pit, pump and valve choices depend on site drainage.
Soil and access
Rock, high water table or tight lots slow the work.
Future suite
Stubs for a basement apartment are cheapest to add now.

Common questions
When does underground plumbing happen?
After footings and foundation walls, before the basement slab is poured. It must be inspected before it is covered.
Who connects the house to the city sewer?
The municipality typically handles the connection at the main and up to the property line. We build everything on the private side and coordinate the timing.
Should I replace the old sewer lateral on a rebuild?
Not always. We camera it first. If it is cracked, root-filled or clay, replacing it before the slab is much cheaper than later.
Is a backwater valve needed on a new house?
Backwater protection is part of the design on most new homes. We place the valve where it can be accessed for maintenance.
